Pacific City Hotel Oregon: Headlands Lodge Review
My husband and I went on an Oregon road trip leaving from Boise, Idaho, in the spring, and I was searching for places to stay along the Oregon Coast. I wanted something romantic and charming with great design. And I felt like there were some “nice” options for Oregon Coast hotels, but nothing that truly stood out to me. I knew we’d be close to Pacific City, Oregon, so I did a search on hotels near Pacific City and stumbled upon the Headlands Coastal Lodge.
The Headlands Coastal Lodge is a Pacific City hotel on the beach, the rooms have ocean views, and the hotel is located right next to Cape Kiwanda. Immediately after looking on their website, I knew I needed to stay here—if not for just the view of Haystack Rock (aka Chief Kiawanda Rock) out the window. Yes, there is another one in Canon Beach further north, not to be confused!
Read on to learn more about my experience at this hotel. Want a video tour of the Headlands Lodge? Peep my reel with a room tour! Also, while we’re at it, let’s be friends on Instagram and Tiktok!
Getting to The Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa
Pacific City is located directly on the Oregon Coast next to Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area. It’s north of Lincoln City and south of Tillamook and Cannon Beach. I recommend getting here by car. The airports that most people fly into are Portland International Airport as it’s only a 2-hour drive from Pacific City. If you do drive, there are plenty of parking spots for your car at the lodge. If you have an electric vehicle, they have car charging stations.
The Headlands Lodge Lobby & Check-In
The Headlands Lodge is a luxurious adventure lodge with an outdoorsy, rustic feel. Moreover, the design is immaculate, and I immediately felt relaxed upon entering the lobby. Not only is the staff extremely welcoming and friendly, but they are knowledgeable and gave us wonderful local recommendations.
In the lobby, you’ll find the Adventure Center, where you can borrow gear for exploring the North Coast, like umbrellas, bikes, hiking poles, beach chairs, and maps. You’ll also find local guides or Adventure Coaches here who can help you book excursions and activities throughout your stay. They will help you plan whatever you can think up, from beach bonfires to crabbing and kayaking; they can help book your outings! To plan ahead, you can email them at adventure@headlandslodge.com.
Throughout the lodge, you’ll also find seasonal installations of local artists as well as a pantry on each floor of the lodge with a selection of snacks and beverages. In the lobby, you’ll also find their gift shop stocked with a great selection of Oregon-inspired goods.
Rooms
The lodge has a total of 33 oceanfront guest rooms and 18 oceanfront cottages with views looking out to Haystack Rock and the ocean. You’ll be able to watch the sunsets and the fishermen taking their boats out in the morning from your private balcony!
Because this is an adventure lodge, all rooms have custom racks to hang your bike and surfboard on!
The bed is luxurious and extremely comfortable, plus you’ll get to wake up every morning with views of the ocean! Some of the rooms also have relaxing cast iron tubs and fireplaces. Both are great to enjoy when the coast gets chill and rainy!
We stayed in the King Sunlight room, which was perfect and so cozy and luxurious. I honestly cannot wait to come back. The room was extremely comfortable, and they had amazing Oregon locally crafted tea and coffee.
Besides the amazing views, one of the highlights was the plush robes that I love at every hotel I stay in! Other in-room amenities include a Bluetooth lantern speaker, in-room iPad featuring guest services, amenities, and activities, free Wi-Fi, an in-room safe, a beverage cooler, a desk, and much more!
