The Ultimate Boise Summer Bucket List
Western Idaho Fair

[Updated March 2026 with new summer activities and current event details.]

Summer in Boise is hands-down one of the best times to be here. The Boise River opens for floating, patios fill up, outdoor concerts pop up every week, and the long, sunny days stretch pretty late into the night (sometimes 10pm)! From June through September, the whole city definitely feels more alive.

If you’re searching for things to do in Boise in summer, this guide covers the best Boise summer activities. From floating the Boise River to hiking in the foothills, browsing farmers’ markets, catching live music downtown, and planning easy day trips. Whether you’re visiting or you live here and want to soak it all in, this is your local summer bucket list.

While we’re at it, let’s be friends on Instagram and TikTok!

Outdoor Things to Do in Boise in Summer

Float the Boise River

Grab a tube, sunscreen, and some friends! Floating the Boise River is one of the best things to do in Boise in the summer in my personal opinion. It's the perfect way to soak up the sun, enjoy your friends, and cool off in the water. It doesn't matter if you're a pro-floater or a first-timer, the Boise River is pretty beginner-friendly (minus a few small rapids), and it's a great 2-hour afternoon! You'll start at Barber Park and end at Ann Morrison Park. Check out my Boise River Float Guide here.

Bike the Boise River Greenbelt

The Boise Greenbelt is a long 25-mile stretch of pathway that goes through the heart of Boise. You can pedal along the river, soak up the views, enjoy a leisurely ride, and stop at one of the many stops along the way, including restaurants, wineries, and breweries! You'll also find the only Anne Frank Memorial in the USA along the path, which is an outdoor memorial. Here are 10 more stops you can make along the way!

Explore Downtown Boise

Downtown Boise is especially fun in the summer, when patios are full, events spill into the streets, and everything feels walkable and alive. You can wander 8th Street for restaurants and bars, stroll the Boise River Greenbelt, pop into Freak Alley Gallery, and easily make a full afternoon (or evening) out of it.

Visit the Idaho Botanical Gardens

Even outside of concerts at Outlaw Field, the Idaho Botanical Garden is worth visiting in summer. The flowers are in bloom, the grounds are peaceful, and it’s a beautiful place for a slow morning walk near the foothills.

Spend a day boating at Lucky Peak State Park

Head over to Lucky Peak for a boating adventure! Pack some snacks, gather your friends or family, and hit the waters. Whether you're into fishing, swimming, or simply cruising around, Lucky Peak's a fun time!

Go on a hike in the Boise Foothills

Fancy a date with nature? Going on a hike in Boise is as easy as putting on your sneakers and stepping outside. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just looking for fresh air, Boise's trails have got you covered. Check out the best hikes near Boise here or one of the most popular hikes, Table Rock.

Stand-up paddleboard at Quinn's Pond or Esther Simplot Park

Quinn's Pond and Esther Simplot Park are the perfect places for stand-up paddleboarding! It's a great way to get outside and enjoy the summer days near the water.

Watch people surf "The Wave" at the Boise Whitewater Park

Watching folks ride "The Wave" on the Boise River is like catching a glimpse of the city's playful side. Grab a spot by the riverbank, kick back, and enjoy the show as surfers take on this unique urban wave. It's not your typical beach scene, but that's the charm of it.

Go on a Self-Guided Boise Mural Tour

One of the easiest (and free) things to do in Boise in summer is explore the city’s murals on your own. There are great murals around all over Boise and not just in Freak Alley. You can turn it into a casual walking tour and discover some seriously cool local art along the way. Here are some of my favorite murals to stop at!

Hike to Jump Creek Falls

If you’re up for a short road trip, Jump Creek Falls is about an hour from Boise and feels like a hidden oasis. The hike is relatively easy, and the waterfall at the end is especially refreshing in the summer.

Go Golfing

Calling all golf enthusiasts! Boise has a lineup of public golf courses perfect for hitting the links without breaking the bank. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just looking for a fun day out, these courses offer a laid-back atmosphere and scenic views that capture the essence of the Gem State.
