Best Time To Visit Miami
Chances are, whenever you visit Miami, the weather will be hotter than wherever home is for you. If you want to see Miami in its hottest months, plan a trip during the summer months of June to August. However, it will be humid, with temperatures between 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
The most popular time of year to head down to Miami is during the later winter to spring, when temperatures range around mid-70 to 80 degrees, and you can certainly guarantee an escape from your colder weather back home. I personally love this time to visit Miami! Hurricane season in Florida is now from June through November, with most hurricanes happening in September.
Regardless of when you choose to plan your Miami weekend getaway, there are certain must-haves for your Miami packing list you will want to include. Before you start randomly grabbing items from your closet, take the time to think out what you could need based on your weekend itinerary.

What To Pack For A Miami Weekend
Flying Essentials
The flight to Miami will obviously vary depending on where you are flying from, but speaking from an experienced traveler, there are a few flying essentials you will want to include in order to feel comfortable.
The Apple wallet is a common go-to for storing plane tickets due to its easy convenience, but you can print your ticket at the airport if you feel safer holding it in hand.
Potentially less obvious flying essentials that are great to keep on hand in your carryon bag include:
- Hand sanitizer
- Hand lotion
- Lip balm
- A book or Kindle
- Extra masks (a flying requirement since the pandemic)
- Perfume
- Sunscreen
- A portable phone charger
- Headphones
- Reusable water bottle – I love my Hydroflask
- Snacks
- Eye mask – These are pricy but amazing made of silk
- Neck pillow – This is my favorite brand right now
- A long sleeve shirt, in case it gets cold on the plane.
- A valid form of ID and flight information
- Truffle Travel Case – These are my favorite cases for carry-on items.
To all of the skincare lovers out there, flights can be dehydrating. So pack yourself a hydrating face mask or lotion to apply during or after the flight. Most of these items can be found in mini travel-sized portions in the travel section of your local Target or CVS for a cheaper price than what is sold at the airport.
You can also get the go-toobs to be more environmentally-friendly and use your own shampoo and to-go items from home.
Full-size items risk the chance of being taken at TSA for being over the 3.4-ounce limit for non-checked bags. If your Miami trip is for a special occasion like a Bachelorette party, this could be a fun chance to create “Miami travel essentials” for every girl’s carry-on bag full of mini items.
Clothing
As mentioned before, the weather in Miami will vary depending on the exact time of year that you visit, but you can always expect warm to hot days and lots of sunshine.
Be sure to think about your exact weekend itinerary when filling up the limited space in your travel bag.
Pro tip: invest in packing cubes beforehand so that you can feel organized by sorting all of your clothing items by category or specific outfits.
Beach or Poolside Attire
Prepare to hit the beach or the pool when visiting Miami. Depending on your plans, you could find yourself at one of the many bustling pool parties at various “pool clubs” in the city.
The attire for these events for women tends to be bathing suits with fashionable cover-ups, like flowy pants or sarong wraps. Pack a fashionable one-piece swimsuit; these can have cute cutouts and even become your pool-side outfit for your trip to Miami.
The ladies will often wear platform shoes for these events and bring small purses and sunglasses.
For men, a good pair of swim trunks and a casual shirt (when needed) will do the trick. If fashion is your thing, try something fun and colorful for these pool parties.
If you’re hitting Miami Beach’s South Beach in a more casual setting, then all you really need to worry about packing are your normal beach essentials:
- your best bathing suit
- flip flops
- a change of clothes like jean shorts with a linen top
- and any other beach accessories (towel, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses and sun hat, etc.)
Going boating during your trip? Then these same essentials will likely be needed and can be selected in a fancier or more casual manner as your exact plans suggest.
Your two-piece swimsuit will not occupy much room in your suitcase, allowing you to pack light still. So bring a few different options for the beach, pool, or other water activity.
Casual Attire
A step between the beach attire and the nightclub attire will be the casual daytime or nighttime attire.
Women will want to pack sundresses, rompers, shorts, tank tops, and sandals for the daytime when exploring outside, shopping, or eating meals at restaurants during the day. Don’t forget to bring a light jacket with you, as it can get chilly in shaded spots near the ocean or in air-conditioned restaurants.
Men will want to think similarly with shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, or boat shoes. Consider selecting your clothing based on lighter materials that will feel more breathable in the hot weather, like linen and cotton. If you anticipate yourself exercising on your trip, be sure to pack breathable workout clothing and sneakers.
Similar clothing items with a fancier edge can be packed for going out to dinners at restaurants during the nighttime.
People like to dress up in Miami in general, so heeled sandals and wedges will be popular among the women when dining out even if it’s not a restaurant policy.
This type of attire can be worn at bars as well, but once you get to the club scene the dress code will become a bit stricter.
Miami Nightlife Outfits
If you and your crew decide to hit nightclubs in Miami, like E11EVEN or Space, it is important to understand that the nightlife scene in Miami is DRESSY, and it’s a whole vibe. I personally love it so much because this is your chance to really go all out.
Women will follow a cocktail attire dress code by wearing dresses, skirts, and heels when going to nightclubs.
Pack a crossbody purse or a clutch to carry your night-out essentials, like your wallet, phone, and lip gloss.
Even if you still want to pack light, small purses, and light dresses take up little to no room, making it a win-win for you and your luggage!
Men should also dress to impress with a nice pair of slacks and a nice shirt. Most venues will be strict about the policy of no ripped jeans, no flip flops, and no baseball hats in order to enter.
The atmosphere at many of these Miami nightclubs is glitzy, with bottle service and big-name musical performers.
You may even see a celebrity in town visiting also Miami’s world-class nightlife. Be sure to check out the exact policy of the venue you are attending ahead of time just to make sure you will be in accordance with the dress code.
Accessories
Getting dressed for a night out can be the perfect time to try out fun accessories to spice up your outfit and wear things that you may not normally wear at home.
The ladies can pack fun purses, dangly earrings, body jewelry, and strappy heels for nights out. Colorful sunglasses and sunhats are great for beach time.
Perhaps you can show off one of the purchases you made during your day shopping down Lincoln Road, which is the premier shopping destination in South Beach.
Miscellaneous Miami Essentials
Lastly, the miscellaneous essentials section of what to pack for a Miami weekend. This includes all of the toiletries that you take with you on any trip, like:
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Mouth wash
- Hair products – I love this new shampoo and conditioner because of the smell!
- Hair tools
- Skincare items
- Makeup items
- Tech gadgets like cameras, waterproof case
- Charging cords
- Sun protection
Other Miami-specific miscellaneous items that you will want to pack if you have not done so already are sunscreen for protection against the sun rays, a beach bag or tote for outdoor activities, a book to read on downtime, and a few pairs of sunglasses.
If you want to add a fun element to your trip, pack a disposable camera to capture some memories artistically on film or grab a GoPro to capture any fun adventures you go on!
Now that you have read all about what to pack for a Miami weekend, it is time to grab your packing cubes and pack for the best trip ever!
