7 Romantic Getaways in Idaho
Are you looking to plan a romantic getaway in Idaho with your partner? If so, you’ve come to the right place. For those of us lucky to live in Idaho, we don’t have to travel too far! Whether you’re looking for a rustic backcountry experience or fine dining at world-class restaurants, the Gem State has it all. Here are some of my favorite romantic getaways in Idaho to guarantee an awesome time in Idaho with your loved one.
While we’re at it, let’s be friends on Instagram and Tiktok!
1 – Glamp in a Yurt
Easier than camping but with the same wilderness feel, yurt stays are not just for nomads in Mongolia anymore. I think you can actually Google the name of any destination in Idaho followed by “yurt” and voila – it exists! These structures are popular here for good reason – they are relatively simple to build in remote settings and provide good protection from the cold.
If you are looking for somewhere close to Boise, try a yurt near Idaho City, Galena Summit, or McCall. My boyfriend and I went to this yurt outside of McCall last Valentine’s Day (get a discount on your Airbnb stay here) and it was one of our favorite memories together. Read all about our trip here on Visit Idaho’s site. Please note that many are accessible only by skis or snowshoes around this time of the year, so prepare accordingly. Also prepare for primitive bathrooms, a wood-powered heating source, and lots of coziness! Some yurts are also open all year round and can allow easy access to the summer nature!

2 – Visit the resort town of Coeur d’Alene
If you are feeling up for a long road trip (or short flight) depending on where you’re located, consider a magical weekend in Coeur d’Alene. Stay at The Coeur d’Alene Resort in a lake view room with a fireplace – what could be more romantic than that?!
Grab a drink before dinner at Whispers with a view of the lake and grab dinner at Tony’s on the Lake, 351 Cuisine, or The Bluebird for a romantic atmosphere. Downtown Coeur d’Alene also has great wine bars, breweries, and art galleries if you’re up for adventuring around the town during your stay. Check out my Coeur d’Alene guide for more things to do. Because Couer d’Alene is located on a lake there are lots of wonderful outdoor activities to keep you busy all year round.

3- Explore lake town, Sandpoint
Close to Coeur d’Alene but with a personality all its own, Sandpoint is artsy, outdoorsy, and the perfect place to spend a romantic getaway with your partner. Grab a breakfast burrito at Joel’s Mexican Food before hitting the slopes at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. If you want a more secluded experience, you can stay at the resort for some beautiful mountain views.
Be sure to visit some of the many downtown art galleries, and don’t miss a romantic two-horse open sleigh ride at Western Pleasure Guest Ranch. Another popular and romantic retreat is the Talus Rock Luxury Retreat. I also have this post about things to do in Sandpoint if you need more ideas!

4 – Soak in a hot springs
No list of romantic getaways in Idaho would be complete without a visit to some hot springs. To make it an extra special experience, consider a destination where you can stay the night. Burgdorf Hot Springs is a rustic, remote resort only accessible by skis/snowmobiles in the winter months.
This is one of the most romantic and quintessential Idaho adventures on the list! Surrounded by mountains, the resort offers 15 cabins for immersing yourself in a truly unique hot springs experience. Another option closer to Boise (and more easily accessible during the winter months) is The Springs in Idaho City. You can stay right next door at the Inn at the Pines just be sure to make reservations at The Springs in advance!
Near Twin Falls is Miracle Hot Springs with private pools for rent. You can even stay on a yurt at their property.

5 – Visit Sun Valley or Stanley
There are few places in the country (or world)! that compare to Sun Valley, one of my favorite places in Idaho. Sun Valley is the ideal lover’s retreat if you are searching for an indulgent getaway and don’t mind the higher price tags on lodging and dining.
Stay at the legendary Sun Valley Lodge and experience world-class dining and spa services under the same roof. Another romantic spot is the Knob Hill Inn.
Sun Valley is most known for its outdoor access and has one of the world’s best ski areas – Bald Mountain. In addition to downhill skiing, you can also find excellent cross-country skiing, snowshoe trails, ice skating, and some of the most scenic (and romantic) sleigh rides. Here are more great things to do in Sun Valley in the winter, including a great apres-ski scene.
Sun Valley is equally as outstanding in the summer, so it doesn’t matter what time of year you visit. The Ketchum and Sun Valley nightlife, restaurant scene, and hiking trails are also perfect for one of the best romantic getaways in Idaho. Keep an eye out for celebrities – quite a few visit and live here!
If you want even more secluded outdoor adventures, head over to Stanley, Idaho where you can go horseback riding, hiking, hot spring soaking, or do a river float. Try staying at the Redfish Lake Lodge.

6 – Rent a cabin in McCall
McCall is hands-down my favorite place in Idaho, and it also happens to be full of cabins! A quick internet search will give you more options than you can probably even handle. The town’s Winter Carnival runs from the last weekend in January until the first weekend in February for those of you who want to celebrate Valentine’s day a little early.
After that, there are still plenty of outdoor activities if you start to get cabin fever. Visit Brundage Mountain or Tamarack Resort for epic skiing and snowboarding. You can also find snow tubing, snowmobiling, and sleigh rides, all right outside of your Pinterest-worthy cabin! Summertime is also wonderful, with great hiking and lake activities. Find all of my other favorite things to do in McCall in the winter, here, and fun girls weekend activities here.
Just a few miles south of McCall is the cute town of Cascade, Idaho, and Warm Lake. If you can’t find anything in McCall, these are great options and super romantic! Here are some great ideas if you decide to go this route.

7 – Explore Idaho’s capital, Boise
Don’t forget Idaho’s capital city when thinking of a romantic weekend away in Idaho. Downtown Boise is chock full of incredible restaurants, wineries, breweries and cocktail bars sure to make you have a perfect romantic weekend. Check out some of the most romantic restaurants in Boise and some of the best Airbnb’s in Boise to make your stay that much more enjoyable! You can also stay downtown at one of my favorite themed hotels, The Inn at 500. I’ve never stayed at the Anniversary Inn, but it’s one of the more famous themed hotels in Idaho, so it could be some kitschy fun!
I also recommend renting bikes and biking together along the famous Boise Greenbelt. There are some great stops like Telaya Winery and Yardarm. If you’d rather float the river instead of a bike, here are my tips!

BONUS: Twin Falls and the Magic Valley
Just two hours south of Boise, you’ll find Twin Falls where the famous Shoshone Falls State Park is located. Visiting the Snake River Canyon in the summer is a wonderful romantic getaway. I recommend exploring Thousand Springs State Park, kayaking to Blue Heart Springs, or kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding to Shoshone Falls!
If you’re feeling outdoorsy, you can also rent a Suboverland to take down for some glamping! Or you could stay in the Famous Idaho Potato Hotel on your drive from Boise to Twin Falls!
