50+ Fun Date Ideas in Boise (A Local’s Guide for Every Season)

I’m always looking for fun things to do in Boise with my husband, and after living here for ten years and going on lots of fun date nights, I finally put all my favorite date ideas into one big list.

These are the spots we actually go to, the places I recommend to friends, and the things you can do year-round when your brain is fried and you can’t think of anything besides “uhhh…want to just go to dinner??”

Whether you want something cozy, something outdoorsy, something that feels expensive-but-isn’t, or something that involves a sweet treat, here’s the full guide.

Also, while we’re at it, let’s be friends on Instagram @travelingspud and @theboiseguide and Tiktok!

Cozy + Low-Lift Date Ideas

For when you want to leave the house…but barely.

Food Truck Date at Green Acres Food Truck Park or Bluebird Social

Green Acres Food Truck Park and Bluebird Social are both great low-effort date ideas. Grab something from one of the food trucks, find a picnic table, and hang out for a while. Sometimes there’s live music too, especially at Bluebird Social since it’s an outdoor music venue, which makes it feel a little more like a night out. Both of these are along the Boise Greenbelt so you can go on a walk afterwards. Just keep in mind they are closed in the winter.

Wine at Telaya Wine Co.

Telaya Wine Co. sits right along the Boise River Greenbelt and is perfect for an easy date. Grab a glass of wine, sit on the patio, and watch people bike or walk by.

Walk Around Hyde Park

Hyde Park is one of the easiest Boise dates. Grab coffee at Hyde Perk, get a breakfast sandwich at Certified Kitchen and Bakery, or lunch at Parilla, wander through the neighborhood, and stop for ice cream at Goody’s. If you feel adventurous, you can also hike up Camel’s Back!

Coffee + Bookstore Date at Rediscovered Books

Rediscovered Books in downtown Boise is a cozy spot to browse books together. Grab a coffee nearby and spend some time wandering through the shelves. If you’re feeling wild, you can also check out the romance bookstore, Hearts on Fire!

Boise Whitewater Park Viewing at Dude Dewalt Cellars

The Boise Whitewater Park is a fun place to watch surfers ride the river wave. The perfect viewing location is at Dude Dewalt Cellars along the Boise Greenbelt. You can have a wine flight and watch the surfers!

Old Speak Bar

If you love books and cocktails, this place is such a vibe. Pick a book off the wall, pretend you’re in a fancy library, and order a drink that makes you feel smarter than you actually are. You can even get work done here during the weekdays (not saying that’s the date night vibe), but still!

Sturman’s Wine & Cigars

A classy-feeling date without the price tag. Great for just sitting, chatting, and drinking wine.

Coffee, Dinner, and Ice Cream on the Bench

Start with coffee at Push & Pour, grab dinner at Wyld Child, and end the night with ice cream from The STIL. This is one of the easiest Boise date nights and is always a hit.

Board Games at Chits & Chats

Chits & Chats is a new board game pub in Boise, ID, that is open for board game nights and/or easy nights to just play a game and grab some drinks.

Walk Around Bown Crossing

Bown Crossing is a cute little area in Southeast Boise with restaurants, coffee shops, and the Greenbelt nearby. Grab a drink or dessert and wander around for an easy date.

Happy Hour Patio Date

Sometimes the easiest date is just happy hour at a fun spot. Grab a patio seat at places like Ochos, Acero, Yardarm, or The Sandbar and enjoy a drink together.

Catch a Comedy Show

Check out a show at The Comedy Lounge, Liquid Lounge or Watson’s Mystery Cafe.

Creative Date Ideas

For when you want to make something together.

Boise Art Glass

Glassblowing is surprisingly fun and you get a souvenir at the end. It’s one of the more unique date ideas in Boise and makes for a memorable experience together. Boise Art Glass offers 1 hour lessons and it’s a fun time! We did it here!

Candle Making at Lit & Co

Lit & Co offers DIY candle-making classes at their Hyde Park, State Street, and Caldwell locations. You choose the scent, pour the wax, and create your own custom candle.

Painting or Watercolor Class

Grab brushes, sip some wine, and see who’s secretly the next Picasso. I recommend classes with Moonstruck Creations watercolor classes or a paint at sip class at Painting with a Twist.

Terrarium Workshop

Some Boise plant shops occasionally host terrarium-building workshops where you create your own little plant ecosystem. It’s relaxing, a little artsy, and you leave with something green to take home. Try Wood and Root Plant and Craft Bar in Meridian to have adult beverages along with your terrarium build!

Woodworking Class

If you want to try something hands-on together, take a woodworking class at Maker Shop Boise or Woodcraft of Boise!. You can learn the basics, build something together, and see who actually knows how to use the tools. It’s a fun, creative date that leaves you with something you made.

The Handmade Hangout

This is one of the more unique date ideas in Boise if you’re looking for something creative to do together. The Handmade Hangout is a cozy DIY craft studio in Boise where you can make things like candles, jewelry, bath products, and other fun projects. You pick your craft, grab a drink, and spend time creating something together. It’s a relaxed, creative date that’s perfect if you want to try something new and leave with a handmade souvenir.

Pottery & Ceramics at Clay Collective

Clay Collective is one of the most fun creative date ideas in Boise if you want to try something new together. They offer pottery classes where you can learn to throw clay on the wheel and make your own pieces. Even if your bowls come out a little lopsided, it’s a fun, hands-on experience and you’ll leave with something you made together.

Paint Pottery

A Way With Clay and Ceramica are paint-your-own pottery studios that are easy, low-pressure creative dates. You pick out a piece of pottery, choose your colors, and spend the evening painting while chatting and relaxing. It’s simple, fun, and you get a cute keepsake to remember the date.

Outdoor Date Ideas in Boise

Perfect for couples who need fresh air!

Walk or Bike the Boise River Greenbelt

One of the best things about Boise is the Greenbelt, and it makes a great easy date. You can walk or bike along the river, enjoy the scenery, and stop somewhere along the way for a drink or snack. It’s a relaxed way to spend time together and explore one of the prettiest parts of the city.

Float the Boise River

Floating the Boise River is a Boise classic for a reason and one of the most fun summer date ideas in the city. Grab a couple of tubes or a raft, pack some snacks, sunscreen, and a dry bag, and spend a few hours floating from Barber Park to Ann Morrison Park. It’s relaxing, a little adventurous, and a great way to enjoy Boise together on a hot summer day.

Hike Table Rock

Hiking Table Rock is one of the classic Boise date ideas, and the views at the top are worth the climb. The trail is fairly short but still gives you that “we did something outdoorsy today” feeling. Go around sunset for the best views over downtown Boise and the foothills. If Table Rock isn’t for you, try one of these hikes!

If you prefer being outside, grab a tee time at one of the local courses and make a full afternoon out of it or play a round of disc golf!

Camel’s Back Hike & Picnic

Camel’s Back Park is a great spot for an easy outdoor date in Boise. You can hike one of the short foothill trails for great views of the city, then bring a blanket and have a picnic in the park afterward. It’s a simple way to enjoy the outdoors and spend a relaxed afternoon together.

Boise has a surprisingly good arts scene with everything from Broadway shows and concerts to local theater productions. You can catch performances at places like the Morrison Center, Boise Contemporary Theater, Boise Little Theater, Alley Repertory Theater, Stagecoach Theatre, and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival during the summer. There are also great performances from groups like Ballet Idaho and the Boise Philharmonic throughout the year.

Go Dancing

If you want a date that gets you moving, try a night of dancing. Ochos downtown has salsa and bachata nights every Friday, and Sunday at Solid offers Tango dancing lessons. Even if you have two left feet, it’s a fun way to do something different together.

Museum Date Night

If you want a low-key date that’s still interesting, plan a museum night. Boise has several great museums all close together, especially around Julia Davis Park. You can explore places like the Boise Art Museum, the Idaho State Museum, or the Idaho Black History Museum, which shares the story of African American history in Idaho. You could even add stops like the Basque Museum & Cultural Center or the Old Idaho Penitentiary if you want to turn it into a full afternoon of exploring. Boise has a surprisingly good museum scene and it’s a fun way to do something a little different together

Catch Some Live Music

Live music is always a fun date night idea in Boise. Venues like Treefort Music Hall, Shrine Social Club, Neurolux, The Olympic, The Knitting Factory, or Outlaw Field Concert Series and The Sapphire Room regularly host concerts and shows. If you’re looking for something more casual, places like Pengilly’s Saloon, Heritage Social, or Sturman’s often have live music you can just drop in and enjoy. This is also a great one to check my weekly Thursday newsletter for since I usually share upcoming shows and events happening around town.

Explore Freak Alley and Boise’s Public Art

Downtown Boise has a surprisingly great public art scene, and exploring it together makes for a fun, easy date. Walk through Freak Alley to see the colorful murals, wander around downtown spotting other pieces of public art, and grab coffee or a drink along the way. It’s a simple way to explore the city and take some fun photos together.

Discovery Center of Boise Adult Night

The Discovery Center of Idaho occasionally hosts adults-only nights where you can explore the exhibits without a bunch of kids running around. There are usually drinks, themed activities, and interactive exhibits to play with. It’s a fun, slightly nerdy date idea and definitely something different to do in Boise.

Zoo Boise Adult Night

The zoo isn’t just for kids. Zoo Boise hosts occasional adults-only events where you can explore the zoo after hours, grab a drink, and see the animals in a totally different atmosphere. Events like “Roars & Pours” or “Wild at Twilight” are 21+ evenings with live music, drinks, and special animal experiences, which makes for a really fun and unexpected Boise date night.

Cooking Class at Season + Taste

Season + Taste is a cooking school in downtown Boise that offers all kinds of hands-on classes where you can learn to make things like pasta, pies, and different cuisines. Start the morning with brunch at places like Fork or Moon’s Kitchen Café, then wander through the Boise Farmers Market and Capital City Public Market and check out the local vendors. It’s a relaxed weekend date that feels very “we have our life together” while you snack, stroll, and enjoy the morning together.

Visit a Local Flower Farm

Flower farms make such a fun spring or summer date in the Boise area. Many of them let you walk through the fields, cut your own flowers, and build a bouquet together. It’s also a great excuse to take some cute photos and spend time outside. Some favorites around the Treasure Valley include Lovely Hollow Farm, Mason Creek Farm, Hidden Hollow Farms, Blue Sky Flower Farm, and Lowe Family Farmstead.

It’s an easy way to turn a simple afternoon into a fun mountain day.

Day Trip to the Sunnyslope Wine Trail

If you want to get out of Boise for a few hours, the Sunnyslope Wine Trail makes a great day date. The wineries are spread along the Snake River near Caldwell and offer beautiful views, great wine, and a relaxed atmosphere. You can stop at a few tasting rooms, enjoy the scenery, and turn it into a fun afternoon exploring Idaho wine country.

Wellness Dates

Book a sauna and cold plunge session

Sisu Sauna and cold plunge, PLUNJ, Rise Modern Wellness, or WELLHOUSE are all great ways to try a sauna and cold plunge date!

Couples Massage at Two Rivers Salon and Spa

If you want a relaxing date idea, book a couples massage at Two Rivers Salon & Spa. It’s a great way to slow down, unwind, and treat yourselves to a little pampering together.

Go to the Salt Sanctuary

Here you can get halotherapy (salt therapy) in a cave! It’s supposed to help with respiratory issues and reduce stress.

Cheap or Free Date Ideas in Boise

Thrift Store Challenge

Turn thrift shopping into a game by setting a small budget and picking outfits for each other. Hit a few local thrift stores around Boise and see who can find the funniest or most ridiculous look. It’s cheap, creative, and almost guaranteed to lead to some laughs.

Both spots also have other activities, like axe-throwing.
